Koala Habitat in a Changing Climate (KHICC) aim to highlight regions that should be prioritised for conservation and recovery of Koalas to increase the long-term persistence potential of the species. &lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Version 1 of the Known KHICC:&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;UL STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;padding:0 0 0 0;"&gt;&lt;LI&gt;&lt;P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;identifies areas within 10km of a koala observation &lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;SPAN STYLE="font-weight:bold;"&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;that also&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;&lt;P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;has a predicted probability of containing a feed tree &amp;gt; 0.5 and&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;&lt;P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;includes areas predicted to be suitable for koalas by 2070 climate modelling&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;&lt;P STYLE="margin:0 0 0 0;"&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Includes Queensland or NSW identified medium to high quality habitat that overlap areas that will be climate suitable to 2070 and within 10km of point observations.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;/UL&gt;&lt;P STYLE="margin:0 0 11 0;"&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;All datasets were resampled to a 250m x 250m cell resolution.&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P STYLE="margin:0 0 11 0;"&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;In 2022, the combined population of koalas (&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;SPAN STYLE="font-style:italic;"&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;Phascolarctos cinereus) &lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;in Queensland, New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory were up listed from ‘vulnerable’ to ‘endangered’ under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act). This uplisting was based on the Threatened Species Scientific Committee’s assessment that the koala population had declined by more than 50% over three generations. <statement>Version 1 of the Known KHICC:
• identifies areas within 10km of a koala observation or state-based habitat modelling that also
• has a predicted probability of containing a feed tree &gt; 0.5 and
• includes areas predicted to be suitable for koalas by 2070 climate modelling
• Includes Queensland or NSW identified medium to high quality habitat that overlap areas that will be climate suitable to 2070 and within 10km of point observations.
All datasets were resampled to a 250m x 250m cell resolution and model run using a "importKoalaOccurranceFinalTool" python script linked to a ArcGIS Pro toolbox This version uses climate modelling, feed tree modelling, State habitat modelling and point observations as at May 2025</statement>
