Name: Seamounts

Display Field: NAME

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon

Description: This dataset is a compilation of seamounts and guyots collated from a variety of sources (see below). The dataset is intended for use in relation to Australia's network of Marine Parks and is limited to features within the Australian exclusive economic zone (EEZ), except for specific instances where Australian-specific source data extended beyond the EEZ boundary. Data sources Where source datasets overlapped, features from the most reliable sources have been used over least reliable. Order of import was as follows, based on preceived reliability/recency: 1. World seamount geomorphic feature layer (Harris, et al 2014) (features intersecting EEZ) (N:\Marine\data\bioregionalisation\geofeatures\world\data\Seamounts.shp). 2. World guyot geomorphic feature layer (Harris, et al 2014) (features intersecting EEZ) (N:\Marine\data\bioregionalisation\geofeatures\world\data\Guyots.shp). 3. MARINE_SDE.geomorphic_features (GA - A. Heap, P. Harris, L. Sbaffi, V. Passlow, M. Fellows, J. Daniell, C. Buchanan) (Defn query: FEATURE in ( 'seamount/guyot')). 4. Offshore seamounts (A. Heap, P. Harris, L. Sbaffi, V. Passlow, M. Fellows, J. Daniell, C. Buchanan.) (I:\Marine\rmp\east\kefs\data\archive\offshore_seamounts.shp). 5. Coral Sea seamounts (N:\Marine\data\bioregionalisation\3dgbr_geomorph\shape\coralsea_seamount.shp). 6. Tasmanian points (converted to polygon) (J. A. Koslow,*, K. Gowlett-Holmes, J. K. Lowry, T. O’Hara, G. C. B. Poor3, A. Williams (2001). Seamount benthic macrofauna off southern Tasmania: community structure and impacts of trawling. Mar Ecol Prog Ser 213, pp111-125) (N:\Marine\work\seamounts\data\seamounts.gdb\seamounts_tas). For additional seamount coverage, refer to N:\Marine\work\seamounts\data\seamounts.gdb\seamounts_outside_EEZ.
